Lockhart
Nestled 35 miles south of Austin, those who gravitate toward Lockhart tend to appreciate a more laid-back lifestyle, relishing in the close-knit community, historic character, and slower rhythm of life. Homes in Lockhart vary from well-preserved historic homes to cozy single-family houses, at a far more affordable price point than Austin. New construction homes haven't reached this far south yet but I’ve heard from more than one of my millennial friends that they want to move to Lockhart and open a dive bar. It’s going to be something, someday. Bur for right now, it’s the "Barbecue Capital of Texas," and you’ll find several mouthwatering barbecue joints, like the original Black's Bar-B-Que, that capture the essence of Texan culinary traditions. The town boasts a rich history, evident in its charming mini Main Street lined with local shops and historic buildings. The nearby San Marcos River offers a respite for outdoor enthusiasts, with kayaking, tubing, and fishing opportunities. I think it's going to be the next Round Top, or Fredrickburg. Or at the very least I’m sure it's mentioned in a ZZ Top song!
